From Achievement to Experience: A Learning Journey in Chengdu

This July, winners of the Global Chinese Speaking Challenge 2026 travelled to Chengdu, China, for a week-long Cultural and Academic Exchange Programme. Designed as an extension of the competition, the programme gave students the opportunity to continue their learning in an authentic academic and cultural environment.

More than a recognition of outstanding performance, the exchange programme reflects a broader educational philosophy shared by the organisers and international academic partners: meaningful assessment should create opportunities for continued learning, cultural exchange, and personal growth.

• Visits to Chengdu’s cultural landmarks, including the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Kuanzhai Alley, Taikoo Li, Jinli Ancient Street, and a live Sichuan Opera performance.

The academic programme was designed and delivered by Chengdu University, the academic partner supporting the Global Chinese Speaking Challenge. By combining classroom learning with authentic cultural experiences, the programme enabled participants to strengthen their language skills while gaining a deeper understanding of contemporary Chinese society and culture.

This continuity from assessment to academic engagement, creates a more meaningful learning experience, where achievement becomes the starting point for further development rather than the end of the journey.
